The end is near, and the folks at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) should be treated to a big celebration when the last of the First World War service files is digitized.
LAC yesterday announced it had digitized 592,203 of 640,000 Canadian Expeditionary Services files and reached the name, Waterous. At the rate they’ve been working, they will likely surpass the 600,000 mark in June. The services files are being digitized systematically, from box 1 to box 10686, which roughly corresponds to alphabetical order.
LAC plans to finish digitizing all WWI service files in time for the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI in November. Genealogy blogger John D. Reid anticipates the project will be complete as early as the end of September.
The digitized files are available in the Personnel Records of the First World War database.
