AncestryDNA kits go on sale today in Canada

For Canadians, Ancestry has now reduced the price of DNA kits, calling it their lowest sale of the year.

Starting today until April 30, Ancestry’s DNA kits are $40 off the regular price of $129. Shipping is $20. When two kits are ordered, shipping rises to $30. Tax included. Visit AncestryDNA.ca to purchase.

It typically takes about 10 days to two weeks to receive Ancestry DNA kits, which means they should arrive in time for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

If you have never taken a DNA test, I recommend Ancestry’s test because it has by far the largest pool — more than seven million people have tested their DNA with them. After you receive your results, you can easily upload your results for free to GEDmatch, MyHeritage, and FamilyTreeDNA.

Tomorrow is National DNA Day, created to commemorate the successful completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 and the discovery of DNA’s double helix in 1953. That is why several companies have been offering DNA kits for sale, and John D. Reid wrote about five them on his blog, Canada’s Anglo-Celtic Connections.

Technical problems
On a side note, for the past week, AncestryDNA has had problems with its website. This will be temporary.

I called Ancestry three times about the technical issues with the DNA side of its website. I followed their instructions, including changing browsers, and the problems continue. The website even froze for one of the reps while I was on the phone with her.

At the very least, I would like Ancestry to acknowledge they are experiencing website problems.

FYI – their website still shows the kit to be $129. I assume this is due to their website issue.

I called Ancestry this morning, and the friendly rep told me the sale goes online today at 9 a.m. Mountain time. If you call, however, they will give you the sale price now. (There was no mention of the start time in the info I received by email or on the phone, only the date.)

Ancestry has around 7 million testers, as you say, and has now sold over 10 million kits too!
