Genealogy Gems podcast features Canadian genealogist Dave Obee

The latest episode of the Genealogy Gems podcast features an interview with Canadian genealogy expert Dave Obee.

Starting at the 43-minute mark, Mr. Obee talks with host Lisa Louise Cooke about Canadian census records.

“Canadian census returns have the headings in French and in English. And you would think they would be the same. So, when I did the book [Counting Canadians], I actually translated every single heading on the forms from the French into the English. What I found was in several years there were slight variations. The question that was being asked in French was not the same one being asked in English.”

Next month, Mr. Obee will be delivering the opening keynote address at the Ontario Genealogical Society’s conference in Ottawa along with two presentations and a seminar.
