The never-ending summer weather here in Montreal meant I hadn’t realized we had reached mid-month. Fortunately, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) was paying attention.
Right on schedule, on September 15, Library and Archives Canada announced the progress on its massive project to digitize all 640,000 WWI service files.
As of yesterday, 333,687 files were available online in LAC’s Soldiers of the First World War: 1914–1918 database, reaching the name, Levesque.
Steve Clifford’s estimate of when LAC will digitize the Ls and Ms seems pretty accurate. If that’s the case, we won’t start seeing the files of any servicemen whose last name started with M before December 15. Looking for X, Y or Z? Mr. Clifford estimates we will have to wait until the following December.
