A home movie shot in Quebec in 1929 may be among the earliest colour films in existence.
Montreal-based film historian Louis Pelletier bought the film for $25 at a flea market in 2014. He believes the people who appear in the amateur film are likely well-to-do and Anglophone, and it may have been shot in the Eastern Townships.
Mr. Pelletier uploaded the Kodacolor film to his YouTube channel in mid-March.
According to a CBC report, “The edge codes on the film indicate the stock was manufactured in 1929. Other clues, such as the fashion and a newspaper one of the women reads, support the suspicion that the film dates from that era.”
