Who are your favourite Canadian genealogists?

Commenting on the small number of Canadians recognized in John D. Reid’s annual Rockstar Genealogist survey, Lorine McGinnis Schulze of Olive Tree Genealogy asks us to tell her who our favourite Canadian genealogists are.

She wants to know whose presentations we like to attend. Who are the Canadian experts on Saskatchewan research? BC archives? Who is the go-to person for Acadian research, the Newfoundland military records? Who are the experts in Quebec — French and English. Who is writing articles and books about Atlantic Canada genealogy? Who are the bloggers you follow?

I think you get the point.

Don’t be shy. If your name is not on the list, you hold a certain level of expertise in one or more genealogy research topics, speak at conferences, blog, and manage a website, and you are Canadian, submit your name to Lorine.

Take the challenge
Lorine has issued a challenge: “Fellow Genealogists – here’s a chance for you to promote a Canadian Genealogy Speaker, Blogger or Writer – who are they? Where are they hiding? Please provide their names and a link to their website or blog in the comment section below. Let’s all get to know our Canadian Genealogists. I’m going to add one “rule” regarding bloggers – I only want names of those who are actively blogging and who post fairly regularly. So please – only add a blogger who has posted within the last 2 weeks.”

Post your comments on Lorine’s blog post, Where (and Why) Are Canadian Genealogists Hiding? Don’t write your comments here. Tell Lorine.

  1. Thanks for helping to get the word out Gail! Hoping all Canadian genealogists will stand up and be noticed 🙂 If names and sites are added to my blog post, I can include them in my update I plan to publish this week.

One caveat – some folks are adding names of genealogists who have expertise in a specific aspect of Canadian genealogy…. but they are not Canadians.

While it is wonderful to learn of these genealogists, they don’t fit the criteria (Canadian Genealogists) and won’t be on the updated list.
