Statisticians, genealogists, and many other Canadians had hoped the Trudeau Liberals would bring back the mandatory long-form census, and this morning they apparently announced they will do so.
According to the Huffington Post and other media, Navdeep Bains, the new industry minister – a portfolio that has been renamed Innovation, Science and Economic Development – and Quebec’s Jean-Yves Duclos, the new minister of families, children and social development, were scheduled to make an “important announcement with respect to access to high-quality data” at 11 a.m. ET in the foyer of the House of Commons.
