Britain’s premier family history society, the Society of Genealogists (SOG), is beginning a series of public consultations in order to determine how to best meet the needs of genealogists in the future. One of the first initiatives is to conduct a survey among members and non-members.
The ten questions asked in the survey could serve as inspiration for other genealogy societies to conduct their own. Questions range from about reading the publication to why members do not visit the society’s premises. In addition to the type of questions, I especially like the length of the survey. It’s short and quick to complete.
SOG uses SurveyMonkey to conduct the survey. SurveyMonkey is free online software that is easy to use. (I used it last year for two surveys, and the learning curve is short.)
SurveyMonkey’s basic plan is completely free. You can create and send a survey in any language and view survey results instantly in your account. The basic plan offers ten questions (including descriptive text or images) per survey and 100 responses per survey. If you want more than 100 people to respond, you must upgrade your account for $19 month.
Good idea, SOG.
