NLI to launch Irish Catholic parish registers website today

Today, the National Library of Ireland (NLI) will launch its website Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI. Soon we will have free online access to 390,000 digitized microfilm images of Catholic parish registers.

Some of the records apparently date from the 1790s and reach the 1880s, covering more than 1,000 parishes.

In order to facilitate the event to launch the website, NLI has been closed to the public for what appears to be about a week. It will re-open at 3:30 p.m. today.
