A professional scavenger in Montreal recently found — rescued– a carton of old photo albums that had been thrown out for garbage pick up in one of the city’s wealthier neighbourhoods. Martin Gregory has now shared some of the century-old photos on his blog, Things I Find in the Trash.
Mr. Gregory regularly walks and bikes around Montreal, looking for objects discarded or abandoned by their former owners. He then cleans them up and in some cases repairs them.

Royal Military College
In his blog post, Scotland — 1908?, where he has posted several photos, he writes, “Most of the early photos look to have been taken at the Royal Military College in Kingston ON.”
The title of the blog post comes from the label on one of the albums.
Mr. Gregory also found photos of what appears to be a military training camp during the First World War.
Although Mr. Gregory is not sure he will sell the photos on eBay as he does with many of his other finds in Montreal garbage, it is still good to read some of the people in the photos are identified. “I also saved some very old portraits that date back to the late 1800s. The names of a lot of these people are written on the back.”
If you recognize any of the people in the photos on his blog, I suggest you contact Mr. Gregory through his blog or his Facebook page.
