Whew! I made it.
Today, February 16, 2015, marks the first anniversary of my blog. Thanks to all of you who follow me, provide comments, offer moral and technical support, make suggestions, and promote this blog.
When I began this news blog last February, I was unsure of my ability to maintain a daily pace — but somehow I did, with the exception of a one-day break on Christmas Day when readers seemed pre-occupied with family activities, not genealogy.
My blog posts about new online resources — from anywhere — and French Canadian and Franco-American research have been among the most viewed and continue to be so. A survey in August about why people join genealogy societies generated a lot of interest, and boy were there a lot of comments and opinions. The most pleasant surprise was the big response to the three-part series about books, O, Canada — Summer reading for genealogists, that contained suggestions from my friends and me. It was nice to know that many of us still like to read.
Most popular post — Facebook for Canadian Genealogy
By far, the blog post that attracted the most attention was Facebook for Canadian Genealogy in November when I published a 12-page list of Facebook groups and pages that can help us research our Canadian ancestry.
Updated, expanded Facebook for Canadian Genealogy
So, to celebrate my first anniversary, I have expanded the list to include almost 400 Facebook groups and pages — 30 percent more than the first edition.
I encourage you to share this new list, Facebook for Canadian Genealogy_February 2015, and send me additions, and join us on the Genealogy à la carte Facebook group.
UPDATE: You’ll find the latest Facebook for Canadian Genealogy list here.
Thank you for following this blog. Without you, I would be writing for an audience of one, me.
Congratulations Gail on a blog well done. I have learnt a lot from it and it has helped me in my searches. Lovelyn
Thank you!
Congratulations, Gail. I look forward to each post. Thanks for all your hard work.
Thanks, Sandra. I continue to enjoy your blog too.
Congrats Gail!
Always enjoy your postings and am in awe of your output!
Thanks, Jackie!
Congratulations, Gail. I enjoy your posts because I have some Canadian roots and also share with Canadian friends here in the U.S.
Thanks, Linda.
Congratulations, Gail! Your hard work and enthusiasm for sharing with fellow genealogists is greatly appreciated. Always enjoy reading and learning from your daily posts!
Thanks for all your help and support, Susan.
Congratulations on completing your first year! Your blog has been an enormous help to me as I started to research my Canadian Ancestors. I recommend it to everyone I know doing Canadian genealogy (& I guess, now, to those I don’t know, too. And yes, the updated Facebook list will definitely go in the Resources as soon as I get to my computer!)
Thanks, Jo!
Congratulations and Happy Blogiversary.
Thanks, Cathy!
Congratulations Gail!
I have thoroughly enjoyed following this first year of your blog and exploring all your tips & topics. You’re an inspiration!
I have even started a Facebook page for the Vernon & District Family History society because I was tired of telling members of all your tips one by one!
The page is a huge step for me but with your example I hope to meet the challenge
Thanks, Joyce! I’ve added your Facebook group to the list for the next edition.
I can’t believe it’s only 1 year! Happy Blogiversary, Gail!
I assumed by the quality and frequency of your posts that you’d been doing this a long time and I’d only just found you.
All the very best wishes for the future. Your Creme de la creme posts are always interesting, as well, even though I have few early Canadian ancestors.
Congratulations.
Thank you, Celia!
Congratulations and Happy Blogiversary!!
Thanks, Jana! I like following your blog too.
Gail, as a fellow Canadian, I applaud your efforts and appreciate the gems you send us on a frequent basis. Your recent Roots Tech 2015 blogs were especially timely and helpful. Keep up the good work! Bonne Chance!
Thanks, Norm! C’est très gentil de votre part. (Thanks for sharing with me too.)
Congratulations Gail,
I really enjoy your posts. You have a lot more energy than I do. All the best as you continue your blog.
Lynne
Thanks, Lynne!
Happy Birthday, Gail.
I can’t imagine my first cup of tea in the morning without your blog in hand! Many thanks – great creative writing and great information.

Hi. i’m trying to tie my husband’s family to Samuel deChamplain. Have been told he did have children with an indian. A picture of Champlain is almost identical to my husband. We do not know much about my husband’s lineage, but is supposedly from the Quebec, New York, Vermont area. Had 2 aunts nuns in Quebec and only spoke french. Any help, suggestions? Thank you
Thank you for all your time and effort!
