PRONI lectures available on YouTube

The Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) has its own YouTube channel where you can access dozens of expert presentations related to family and local history. Unlike a webinar where you only see the slides, in these presentations, you see the speaker and the slides, and the audio quality on those I checked was good.

During the past couple of months, the folks at PRONI have been busy editing and posting numerous lectures and conference on their YouTube channel, including the Your Family Tree Lecture Series.

PRONI says on its website, “Due to popular demand, PRONI has set out to record its public events and talks where at all possible. These recordings have now been collated and are being incorporated onto our own YouTube channel.”

In the left-hand margin on this page, you will find links to 24 topics of presentations available on PRONI’s YouTube channel. The talks “have been divided into sections for bite-sized viewing. These talks will continue to populate the YouTube page as time goes on, so please refer back to this page for updates and additions.”

I find the presentations in Exploring Your Archives in Depth to be particularly helpful, such as Using Church Records and Understanding an ancestor’s neighbourhood.

Your Family Tree Lecture Series is also a good series for genealogists:
Part 1 – Getting Started by Janet Hancock
Part 2 – Using Street Directories by Des McCabe (not working when I checked)
Part 3 – Using Church Records by Valerie Adams
Part 4 – Tracing World War One Ancestors by Ian Montgomery
Part 5 – Using Education Records by Valerie Adams
Part 6 – Using Workhouse Records by Janet Hancock
Part 7 – Using Valuation Records by William MacAfee
Part 8 – Using Landed Estate Records by Stephen Scarth
Part 9 – Using Court, Prison and Coroners Records by Wesley Geddis
Part 10 – Using the General Registry Office by Emma Elliott
