Saskatchewan Genealogical Society advocates for access to vital records with letter-writing campaign

The Saskatchewan Genealogical Society has launched a letter-writing campaign to ask the provincial government to provide access to birth, marriage and death records, within the parameters of privacy legislation.

The Province of Saskatchewan has repeatedly told the society that making vital records available is not a priority for the government or for eHealth Saskatchewan.

The society encourages people to use its sample letter to send to the Hon. Jim Reiter, Minister responsible for eHealth Saskatchewan, and to MLAs.

The letter states the fee for genealogical records is “excessive compared to most other provinces.”

Learn about the campaign and the sample letter on the society’s website.
