Updated ethnicity estimates at AncestryDNA

AncestryDNA rolled out its new ethnicity estimates yesterday for all of its more than 10 million customers. Judging by reactions on social media, people seem to be happier with the more refined estimates. For many genealogists, the new estimates appear to better support their research.

People with French Canadian roots will likely see France listed for the first time, replacing Europe West.

Genetic genealogist Blaine Bettinger said, “Note that you have to be an Owner or Manager of the DNA to see the update. Viewers/Collaborators will not see the update until an Owner/Manager goes through the update process.”

Let’s keep in mind that these are still estimates and they will likely change as more people are tested and science improves.
