More public libraries providing free access to Genealogy Quebec

In its latest blog post, the Drouin Institute shares the news about several public libraries that recently began offering free access to the website, Genealogy Quebec.

These public libraries, all in Quebec, now offer access to Genealogy Quebec:
Laurentians (Réseau BIBLIO des Laurentides)
Beaconsfield
Brossard
Granby (Bibliothèque Paul-O.-Trépanier)
Sainte-Thérèse
Saint-Eustache (Bibliothèque Guy-Bélisle)
Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
Trois-Rivières
Quebec City

The libraries in Longueuil, Saint-Basile-le Grand (Bibliothèque Roland-LeBlanc), and Repentigny will provide access to Genealogy Quebec in September 2018.

Public libraries
In many cases, public libraries provide patrons with access from home. Although the Toronto Public Library is among those who provide remote access to Genealogy Quebec, the public library system in Montreal, Canada’s second-largest city, does not. Perhaps someone is working on the City of Montreal Library’s entire website, which is in dire need of a complete re-design. (Since publishing this blog post, I have learned the Toronto Public Library does not provide remote access to Genealogy Quebec. See the first comment below.)

To learn what is available locally, take look at your public library’s website for links to genealogy, généalogie, online databases, digital resources, ressources numériques, or bases de données.

Libraries that have been offering access for a while to Genealogy Quebec or PRDH include the following:

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
McGill University Library
Université de Sherbrooke Library
Dollard-des-Ormeaux Public Library
Pointe-Claire Public Library*

*The Pointe-Claire Public Library no longer promotes access to PRDH on its website, which may indicate the genealogy database is no longer available to its patrons.

  1. Irena (Toronto Public Library staff) says:

    Hello, Gail

I wanted to correct your statement about access at Toronto Public Library: Genealogie Quebec is only available for use in the library at two branches: Toronto Reference Library and North York Central Library (which is currently under renovation). Toronto Public Library does not provide remote access to this database.

Question: Do you have free access from the Toronto ONtario Family History Library? operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? They seem to have access to many search websites. North York Public Library is closed due to renovations, but this Family History Library is open to the public for research.
    thanks
