Toronto’s Etobicoke Historical Society has created an online image library that includes more than 1,800 images representing 20 historical neighbourhoods.
The digitized images are considered a major legacy project to help celebrate the society’s 60th anniversary in 2018.

Within each neighbourhood gallery, visitors to the site can scroll and sort images based on different criteria, such as houses, people, community events, churches, and civic buildings.
Outgoing president James Geneau said, “The digitization of these images means that our collection is now unlocked for all to see and explore the rich photographic history of Etobicoke.”
It took almost two years of work by volunteer board members to catalogue and digitize the images that had been stored away in the historical society’s archives. The collection will continue to grow, and research will be ongoing to update the content and descriptions over the coming years.
