Estimate of when LAC will digitize ‘X,Y and Z’ WWI service files

If you wonder when Library and Archives Canada will digitize your ancestor’s WWI Canadian Expeditionary Force service file, Steve Clifford has produced a chart to show his estimates of when the archivists will reach each letter of the alphabet.

For example, if your ancestor’s surname starts with the letter P, Mr. Clifford estimates you may see the record online by November 15, 2017. Check his chart here.

As of July 15, LAC has digitized 307,588 of 640,000 CEF service files. These include soldiers up to and including the surname, Knaggs.

However, keep in mind it is worth checking the digitized records from time to time, even if your military ancestor’s name is Young. One of my Young’s service file was digitized more than a year ago.

The quickest way to find out if your ancestor’s service file has been digitized is to select Yes in the box next to Digitized File on the Search page.

I was just there on the website yesterday checking on my ancestors and wondering that very question. I’m waiting for S so looks like I have a wait.
