The Queen’s University Archives (QUA) in Kingston, Ontario has digitized the earliest Queen’s College/University student registers from 1842 to 1907.
Students who attended Queen’s tended to be born in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and, although very rare, England and Australia.
The registers noted the student’s name, age, year(s) of study, place of birth, preparatory school, father’s occupation, faculty, religion, intended profession, and where the student currently lived.

The Queen’s College/University student registers were used to record information about students attending the institution. The registers were used up to 1907, and then individual student cards were used.
Although there is no search engine for entering students’ names, finding a student is easy to do in the two steps described on the opening page for the collection.
Step one requires the researcher to check the alphabetical index of registered students prior to 1910, making note of the student name, number, and year(s) of study.
Taking the information from the index, a researcher simply has to click on the corresponding register and download the PDF of microfilm images. Then, it is just a question of searching for the student by their number.
