British North America Preserved: The 1813 Battle of Crysler’s Farm by Stuart Lyall Manson
Join the Leeds & Grenville Branch and the Colonel Edward Jessup Branch, United Empire Loyalists of Canada for an online presentation by Stuart Lyall Manson. He will focus on the context, impact, and aftermath of that important battle on the history of Canada. His presentation slides will be peppered with interesting images, such as maps, documents, paintings, photographs and artifacts. Stuart will delve into aspects of the subject matter that are not well known to the general public. Registration is required.
Tuesday, November 15, 7:00 p.m. — Wellington Branch
Guelph Museums and the Story of John McCrae by Ken Irvine
McCrae House was designated a national historic site in 1966 for its architectural history and as the birthplace of John McCrae. While most of us are familiar with McCrae’s iconic poem, “In Flanders Fields,” Guelph Museum staff will provide a glimpse into other aspects of the doctor’s life as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth. Resources available through the Guelph Civic Museum, which showcases Guelph’s history, will also be highlighted. Registration is required.

Friday, November 18, 7:00 p.m. — Niagara Branch
Canadian Nurse in the First World War by Ann McKibbon
Blanche Augustine, Wainfleet, was a Canadian Nurse in an army hospital in France during World War I. Her great niece, Ann Augustine McKibbon, tells Blanche’s story based on the diary she kept. The talk also puts Blanche’s experiences in the context of the contributions Canadian nurses and other health care professionals made to the war effort. We as Canadians have much to be proud of based on the work of these people. Registration is required.
Much of Blanche’s war history is included in the History of Medicine collection at the University of Buffalo’s library.

Through several case studies of Ontario families we will look at how standard genealogical research techniques can and were used to find the truth, and when we find conflicting evidence.
