The British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) has announced a call for presentations for its 22nd annual conference tentatively scheduled for September 9 – 11, 2016, with possible alternate dates of September 30 – October 2.
For the second year in a row, the conference will be held at Ben Franklin Place in Ottawa.
The two main topics of the conference are Ireland – family history and DNA in genealogy.
The society is seeking proposals on these two topics for lectures on the Saturday and Sunday, as well as for workshops or seminars on the Friday. Lectures, workshops or seminars on other genealogy topics will also be considered.
Details about presentation proposal requirements are available on the BIFHSGO website. The deadline to submit is January 31, 2016.

I was adopted and since I couldn’t find my bio family, I decided to take a DNA test! I took it with FTDNA, and at the end of 2013 I got an email from Glenn who lives in England asking me who I was because we were so close! We found out that I was his aunt, his mother is my half=sister! I couldn’t believe it!! I’ve been searching for so long, I am almost 72 yrs old!! I’ve met part of my new family in Toronto, but some live in USA. Next summer I will go to California to meet my half-sister! These people are on my father’s side, I haven’t found anything on my mother’s side yet!
One month ago I received another email from a lady who lives in Alberta, her name is Patricia Dever Greber!! I think she is with Ancestry and she transferred her result to Gedmatch so she found me as a match to her Great uncle who is Herbert William Jordan! Mr. Jordan was born in Montreal, and part of his family was from Quebec city! It must be from my mother’s side?? I’m waiting now for a kit that I ordered from Ancestry, I don’t know if I will get more answers??
I was also wondering if you are a relative of Patricia? She is a very nice lady, she also has a blog which I read, and I learned a lot about her family!
I was born in Montreal on Feb. 25th, 1944! My problem is that I learned that I was found at 902 Burnside which is De Maisonneuve now! It’s a long story but I don’t give up!
My bio father passed away in 1986, he was Irish “Madden” his name! On the mother side I took the mtDNA test as well with FTDNA, and the result according to the names I got was more of German, Polish, British, some of the names I cannot even pronounce!
Thank you for reading, I just hope that one day before I get too old, that I will find who I am, for me, and my children, and grandchildren!!
