NLI to launch free online access to Catholic parish register microfilms July 8

Ireland Reaching Out reminds us that we need wait only another week for what is described as the “single biggest development for Irish genealogy.”

On July 8, the National Library of Ireland is scheduled to launch a dedicated website that will give free online access to 390,000 microfilm images of Catholic parish registers.

Ireland Reaching Out writes, “Some of the records date from the 1790s and reach the 1880s covering over 1,000 parishes.”

So, what to do while we wait? In its online article, Ireland Reaching Out tells us what we should expect and how to prepare for the big day.

Ireland Reaching Out is the national diaspora programme and has been connecting people of Irish descent with their ancestral home since 2009.

Oh, my. I need a lot of rainy days in July.
