The University of Maine at Fort Kent has posted on YouTube the presentation, Acadians of the St. John Valley, delivered by Lise Pelletier, director of the university’s Acadian Archives.
The 13-minute presentation provides an overview of Acadian history in Canada and the US, with emphasis on the Acadians who settled in northern Maine. Ms. Pelletier explains how the Acadians acquired their name, when and where they settled, the expulsion, and the efforts to maintain French today in Maine’s St. John Valley.
Thanks to Acadian historian and genealogist Lucie LeBlanc Consentino for posting the video on Facebook. Her website, Acadian & French-Canadian Ancestral Home, is full of information and resources.
