On Thursday, April 3, at 12:30 p.m., as part of the Atwater Library and Computer Centre’s Lunchtime Series, Nancy Dunton will give an illustrated talk on The Houses of the Square Mile, the Montreal neighbourhood at the southern foot of Mount Royal where several of Canada’s wealthiest and most powerful families lived in the late 19th and early 20th century. She will examine residential architecture when Montreal was Canada’s metropolis and discuss how Square Mile houses are used today. One of the residences still standing is the George Stephen House (pictured below), built from 1880-1883. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1971.
The Atwater Library and Computer Centre is located at 1200 Atwater Avenue in Westmount. Free admission and everyone is welcome. Coffee and biscuits served.
