If you are in the Quebec City area tomorrow evening, Monday, January 19, you may want to attend the Irish Heritage Quebec’s presentation by John O’Connor, entitled The Irish Street Names of Quebec City.
“Several streets were given an Irish name during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Several new Irish names were added during the renaming of certain streets after the merger of suburban municipalities.”

O’Connell Street, Quebec. Photographer: Louis-Prudent Vallée. National Gallery of Canada, No. 33627.
The presentation will be delivered at McMahon Hall, next to St. Patrick’s Church, at 1145 de Salaberry, Quebec City. Refreshments will be served. Parking stubs in Îlot St-Patrick will be validated.
Irish Heritage Quebec was founded in 1973 by Marianna O’Gallagher and several members of the Irish community of Quebec City, and it is a registered charity. Among the organization’s objectives are: to encourage and aid genealogical studies of Quebec Irish families; preserve information, artefacts and documents belonging to the Irish Community of Quebec; and to promote the study of Irish history.
