Book to document pre-1850 Franco-Québécois civil and religious records in Paris

Next summer, the Société de recherche Archiv-Histo de Montréal will release Les actes civils et religieux des Parisiens et des Canadiens tirés des archives de Paris 1550-1850, a book that may help genealogists establish their Franco-Québécois ancestry in Paris before 1850. The 150-page book is the result of a collaborative effort between the Fédération française de généalogie in France and the Fédération québécoise des sociétés de généalogie in Quebec City.

Dominique Ritchot and Lucille Pagé have compiled almost 850 civil and religious records of Parisians and Canadians. Developed under the direction of Marcel Fournier, coordinator of Fichier Origine, much of the book is based on research of notarial records conducted by Jean-Paul Macouin at the Minutier central des notaires de Paris.

In addition to the Parisian notarial records, records were also located at the Archives de la ville de Paris (Paris Archives) and the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (Quebec Library and Archives).

The book has been divided into four sections: births and baptisms in Paris; marriages and marriage contracts in Paris; deaths and burials in Parish; and wills and estate inventories.

Each entry in the book will have a Fichier Origine reference number. Names of about 160 Parisian notaries will be listed in the appendix.

The official launch of the book will take place in Poitiers, France in October 2015 at the 23rd French Federation of Genealogy Conference — the XXIIIe congrès de la Fédération française de généalogie.
