The Indiana Historical Society in Indianapolis has a gem of an idea for a workshop, just in time for holiday gatherings, on how to introduce kids to genealogy. It is part of a new series.
On December 7, the history centre will hold a two-hour workshop, called Growing Little Leaves: Teaching Children Genealogy Basics.
This is the information on the society’s website:
“Introducing children to genealogy is something many parents and grandparents desire to do but few know how to implement. Growing Little Leaves is a new IHS series created to meet this need. This program educates adults on how to teach children about genealogy concepts. Emily Kowalski Schroeder models four activities, and audience members receive written instructions on how to implement the activities with children.
“Emily Kowalski Schroeder is a genealogist, blogger, mother of two and a meteorologist. Growing Little Leaves is based on her blog of the same title.”
Registration is $5 for IHS members and $8 for non-members.
While the workshop will be held too far away for many of us, the topic may inspire and encourage genealogy societies to consider putting together a similar event.
