Sleep in a First Nations long house

For family historians planning a research trip in the Quebec City area, there is now an extraordinary way to make your stay feel deeply entrenched in the region’s history.

The Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations in Wendake, Quebec, about 15 minutes north of Quebec City, has added a First Nations long house. Guests, who opt not to sleep in one of the 55 deluxe rooms in this boutique hotel, may sleep under bearskins on one of the bunk-style platforms in the long house where firepits provide heat. A long house stay includes a snack of bannock (a type of bread), spa, dinner in the hotel, and traditional Huron storytelling. If you have First Nations ancestry, or don’t, you are bound to enjoy this experience. Read the full story, Checking in: Ancient long house a addition to chic hotel,  that appeared in the Montreal Gazette’s Travel section.

It is unlikely I will be able to convince my girlfriends to share a bunk with me. Apparently, our joie de vivre has its limits. Perhaps I may be able to entice them to join me with a promise to visit the spa.

Il fait du soleil à Montréal aujourd’hui.

Bon journée!
