On September 26, 1944, the Canadian crew took off from Scotland in a Wellington bomber plane for what was expected to be a routine anti-sub patrol mission along the German-occupied Norwegian coast. Then their starboard engine caught fire due to a malfunction and the crew had to make an emergency landing in Norway. Soon, local resistance fighters came to their aid, and what ensues is an exciting story of escape.

The historical account is based on Canadian pilot George Deeth’s war memoirs.

The story, Emergency landing in WW2: The spectacular escape of Canadian airmen from German-occupied Norway is available on the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Canada’s website.
