Three virtual presentations and a virtual drop-in at OGS branches this week

Three branches of the Ontario Genealogical Society this week will each host a virtual presentation, including one that is hybrid, and one branch will host a virtual drop-in. (Actually, five branches are hosting, but three of them are co-hosting.) All events are open to the public and free.

The following times are in Eastern time.

Tuesday, September 9, 7:00 p.m. — Essex, Kent and Lambton Branch
The Miscellaneous Collection at the Archives of Ontario by Linda Corupe

Register to watch online.

Wednesday, September 10, 7:00 p.m. — York Region Branch
Georgina Historical Society — A Story of John Mills Jackson by Paul Brady

Paul Brady, President of the Georgina Historical Society, will present the story of local resident John Mills Jackson. The town of Jackson’s Point is named after him. His story is just one of the many stories that make York Region so full of history and family genealogy. Register to watch online.

Thursday, September 11, 1:00 p.m. – Kawartha Branch
Fall Virtual Open House Drop-In & Chat Hour

To start this very casual meeting, a Kawartha Branch volunteer will give an update on upcoming fall happenings. This is an open time to share ideas, ask your genealogy questions, get assistance with a genealogy problem, perhaps share a personal local genealogy discovery, or just listen in. Register on the Peterborough Public Library’s website to attend online.

Saturday, September 13, 10:30 a.m. — Simcoe County Branch
20 Years of Archaeological Field Schools at Fort Willow National Historic Site by Trevor Carter

2025 marks the 20th year of archaeological field schools at Simcoe County’s Fort Willow, a War of 1812 national historic site near Barrie. The field school, unique in Ontario, is a senior level high school program led by Trevor Carter, a licensed archaeologist and high school teacher at St. Joseph’s High School in Barrie. This presentation will include an overview of the past 20 years of work at the Fort, including new historical discoveries, as well as the value of the excavation experience for the students.

This is a hybrid meeting. Attend in person at the Barrie & District Association Realtors facility, 676 Veterans Drive, Barrie, or register to watch online.
