Public library releases digitized issues of The Sudbury Star, 1910-1925

During an official launch last Friday at the Greater Sudbury Public Library, digitized issues of The Sudbury Star, dating from 1910 to 1925, were released online alongside other historic publications already available.

The searchable digitized collection of this northern Ontario newspaper was compiled by staff and volunteers from physical copies, microfiche and digital copies.

Sudbury Daily Star, March 10, 1910.

Unfortunately 1912 is entirely missing. Greater Sudbury Public Library local history librarian Kristen Bertrand told Sudbury.com, “Nobody has it anywhere.”

On a positive note, Ms. Bertrand said that 1926 of The Sudbury Star is “in the hopper” and almost ready to be published online, and they’ve already digitized it to the end of 1949.

The digitized issues of the The Sudbury Star join several other publications, including Northern Life (1973-1990, 2013-2019), Vernon’s Sudbury and Copper Cliff Directory (1911-1967, 1969-1970), and the Manitoulin District History and Genealogy’s Through The Years (1983-1997), in the Greater Sudbury Heritage Database

This is a database of local history that’s worth exploring, especially if your relatives lived in the area. Use the Advanced Search feature at the top-right of the screen to search by keyword.
