Ontario Ancestors hosts another week of great webinars

Ontario Ancestors, along with its branches and special interest groups, continues this year to offer an excellent lineup of free virtual presentations delivered by popular speakers, and this week is no different. These presentations are open to the public.

Monday, February 3, 7:30 p.m. — Leeds & Grenville Branch
FamilySearch: Accessing & Using Images and Full Text Search by Jill Morelli

Did you know that Family Search is placing their recently digitized material online in less than 24 hours after it is scanned? Did you know that they are placing them, not in the Catalog, but in Images? This makes the images tab (under Search) the most up-to-date repository of FS records – not the Catalog. Did you know that using Artificial Intelligence, you can conduct an all-word search for certain documents in their “Lab”? What is a Super Sleuth to do? Six Free Websites Every Ontario Genealogist Needs by Janice Nickerson

If you watch TV, you might be forgiven for thinking that you need to pay hefty subscription fees to big genealogy companies to research your ancestors. But some of Janice’s most exciting finds were found on six free websites. In this lecture, she will introduce you to her favourite online sources for Ontario family history. Exploring the Library and Archives Canada Online by Ken McKinlay

Over the past few years the website for Library and Archives Canada has undergone a number of changes. For some long-time users of the old site, this has caused moments of frustration. The Devil in the Details: Researching the Dulmages, 1756-1872 by Dr. Jane McGaughey

Dr. Jane McGaughey, the Daniel Johnson Chair of Quebec and Canadian Irish Studies at Concordia University in Montreal, will present a talk about the Delmage/Dulmage family. She will expand on her podcast, which discussed this Irish Palatine family, and will present new information uncovered since the podcast first aired. Register to watch online
