Effective April 25, the Nova Scotia Obituaries website, NSobit.ca, will be hosted by the Genealogical Association of Nova Scotia (GANS). But be patient. Volunteers at GANS are working at setting up the obituary records on their website, but it may take some time to complete the task.
Roberta Joudrey launched the website 12 years ago when her personal collection of obituaries had grown to 10,000. She thought others might find them useful in their own research, and they did.
With help from volunteers, the online database now contains more than 75,000 searchable obituaries of people from Nova Scotia and those related to Nova Scotians.
In a Facebook post, Ms. Joudrey explained why she has passed the baton to GANS. She wrote, “Over the past five years, I’ve been dealing with health issues and it made me realize that something should be done with the obit database so it is not lost forever.”
She added, “It has been a part of my life for 12 years and there are a good many people who use it, and I would like to thank all those who supported the project.”
The obituaries can be viewed on Ms. Joudrey’s website until April 24.
