Ontario Ancestors webinars this week — War memorials, photos, and a special collection

Virtual presentations at Ontario Ancestors’ branches this week feature European war memorials, old photos, and a university’s special collection. All three are open to the public and free.

The following times are in Eastern time.

Monday, October 17, 7:00 p.m. — Oxford County Branch
A Tour of European War Memorials with David MacLeod

Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 18, 7:00 p.m. — Sudbury District and Sault Ste. Marie Branches
Photo Detective Roadshow with Maureen Taylor

A joint presentation by Sudbury District, Nipissing District, Sault Ste. Marie District, and the Greater Sudbury Public Library.

The featured speaker will be Maureen Taylor, widely known as the Photo Detective. Maureen is sought out by clients all over the world. Her pioneering work in historic photo research is unprecedented, evidenced by her success in solving photo mysteries. The author of books, scholarly articles, and online columns, she appeared on The View, The Today Show, Pawn Stars, and others. She has been featured in numerous publications, including The Boston Globe, The New York Times, and Better Homes and Gardens, and was dubbed “the nation’s foremost historical photo detective” by The Wall Street Journal.  She also writes a popular blog.

If you are fortunate to have older photos in your family history collection, you may have questions or you may want to learn more about identifying the who, what, when, and where. Maureen says that if you’ve watched Antiques Roadshow, then you know how this will work.

Participants were invited to submit a photo by October 10. Maureen will choose 10 to 15 photos to investigate in advance, for discussion live. Registration is required.
