Genealogist and artist Cindi Moynahan-Foreman has passed away

Ottawa-based genealogist, blogger, and artist Cindi Moynahan-Foreman died last week of cancer at the age of 65.

Her daughter, Meagan, told the Ottawa Citizen in a beautiful tribute, “Her genealogical work, like her art, was all about storytelling.”

Many of us benefitted from the research and stories Cindi shared on social media.

Every month, from 2014 to the end of 2021, she wrote at least three or four articles on her blog, My Moynahan Genealogy. I featured several of her articles in my weekly Crème de la crème of genealogy blog posts.

Cindi wrote about her father’s Moynahan and Coughline family roots in Windsor and Wallaceburg, Ontario, her mother’s Moreland and Creighton families in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and her husband’s Foreman and Plaus family history in Mimico, Ontario.

She also spoke about Finding Your Female Ancestors at the Ontario Genealogical Society’s Essex County Branch’s virtual meeting in May last year, and the video is available on YouTube.

On the day Cindi died, Meagan wrote on her mother’s Twitter account, “I will continue to honour and share her art and genealogy work, the gifts she gave to the world, to honour her ancestors and the many things she loved about life.”
