Pretty much every day I learn something new about genealogy, and yesterday was no exception.
A reader brought to my attention that the Registers of Chinese Immigration to Canada, 1885-1949 on FamilySearch isn’t a new online collection.
In fact, Library and Archives Canada scanned them years ago, along with other Chinese immigration records from the same period, and indexed them by people’s name.
The reader wrote, “Great that they are also now on FamilySearch, too, but seems unfair to only give FamilySearch credit when LAC has had them available for years.”
I agree. Kudos to Library and Archives Canada for scanning, indexing, and sharing these indexed records.
I’ve added an addendum to yesterday’s blog post, FamilySearch adds indexed records to Registers of Chinese Immigration to Canada, 1885-1949, collection to include a link to Library and Archives Canada’s collection.
Visit Library and Archives Canada’s web section, Ancestor Search, for many other free online databases, including Ukrainian Immigrants, 1891-1930.
