The missing Dutch research in this season’s first episode of Finding Your Roots

This past week, PBS aired two new episodes of Finding Your Roots. Many found the first episode with actress Rebecca Hall and filmmaker Lee Daniels to be particularly good. Unlike last season, host Henry Louis Gates, Jr. spent less time talking about the celebrities’ careers and more on their family history.

As happens with each episode, part of Ms. Hall’s story wasn’t included. Her Dutch grandmother ended up on the cutting room floor. But all is not lost.

John Boeren, who researched Ms. Hall’s Dutch ancestors and whose name appeared in the credits, shared some of the results of his research on his blog, Antecedentia, and it’s worth a read.

Virtual presentation
If you have Dutch ancestry, the Huron County Branch of Ontario Ancestors will host a presentation by Mr. Boeren on March 20. The webinar is free, and you can register here.
