Scrapbooks – A Genealogist’s Gold Mine! by Melissa Barker

If you’ve had the privilege of leafing through scrapbooks made by others, or those you might have found in an Archives, you will know what treasures they contain.  Our December webinar with Melissa Barker will focus on scrapbooks from the perspective of an Archives Manager, and a huge fan.  She describes scrapbooks “like time capsules” with the thrill of discovery when you open them up. Registration is required.

Saturday, December 4 — 10:00 a.m. — London & Middlesex Branch
The Passengers and Victims of the Capsizing of Victoria – Tuesday, May 24, 1881: Not all the Victoria Day Disaster Victims were on board the Victoria by Dan Brock

The presentation will focus on the raw material used to determine the identity of those on board the Victoria on its fatal trip on the Thames River on the evening of Tuesday, May 24, 1881, and who actually died as a result of the steamboat’s capsizing. Among the related deaths were two teenaged boys who were not even on the boat. The process used to determine this and their identities will be explained. Some background on steamboat cruises on the Thames at the time and the causes of the disaster will be briefly noted. Registration is required.
