Saskatchewan Archives completes move into new building

More than 18 months after the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan announced its plans to move all of its archives from five locations in Regina and Saskatoon into one building, the consolidation project has been completed.

The records now reside in their new home at 2440 Broad Street in Regina.

The public reading room in the new location had already opened in August, by appointment.

Since record location inventories are now in the process of being completed, this may impact visitors’ research and reference enquiries.

In February 2019, the province of Saskatchewan announced it had bought the CBC building in Regina to use some of the space for the new Saskatchewan Archives building, consolidating all of the materials that were spread around the province at that time into one building.

Nadine Charabin, director of archival services, explained to CBC in August the benefits of consolidating the archives into one building. “We were previously in multiple locations and there was a lot of travel moving records around. That was time consuming but also hard on the records. A lot of wear and tear in the records and potential for loss and damage and that sort of thing.”

The Saskatchewan Archives will be closed on November 11 in observance of Remembrance Day.
