Ancestry releases index to marriage announcements

Ancestry yesterday released its Newspapers.com Marriage Index, 1800s-1999, that links to hundreds of newspapers.

So far, there are more than 200 million records of marriage and engagement announcements.

At this point, it appears the index links primarily — or entirely — to American newspapers. You need a subscription to Newspapers.com to see the announcement.

The good news is the index will be updated every month or two, and announcements from newspapers in Canada, Australia, Scotland, England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales will eventually be included.

Last year Ancestry brought us the Newspapers.com Obituary Index, and I expect the marriage index will be equally useful to our research.
