Ontario Ancestors’ Quinte Branch marks 40th anniversary by surpassing 1.5 million records in online finding aid

To celebrate its 40th anniversary as a branch of Ontario Ancestors, the Quinte Branch has surpassed 1.5 million records in its online Finding Aid. More than 166,000 names have been added from local histories, directories, and genealogies.

Included in the updated finding aid are the indexes of new family histories, genealogical transcripts, and a number of major historical works. The transcripts and historical works cover all of Quinte Region, including Hastings, Prince Edward and part of Northumberland counties.

The finding aid includes record titles and their location, such as L for Quinte Branch Library Shelves; D for Digital Resource on the computers; C for CD Resource in the CD storage cabinet; and Q for Quinte West Public Library shelves. The names of people buried in local cemeteries are also part of the indexed records.

When searching in the finding aid, genealogists can create their own personal research list to use when they visit the branch’s library at the Quinte West Public Library or to email the branch to do the research for them.

While the general public is right now restricted from entering the Quinte West Public Library, branch volunteers are allowed limited access to do research.

Quinte Branch members are entitled to one hour of free research. The second hour for members is $20, which is the same hourly rate for non-members.

If you are already an Ontario Ancestors member, the fee to join Quinte Branch is $10. Anyone who is not an Ontario Ancestors member can take advantage of the half-price membership of $37 that is now available for the rest of 2020.
