Museum encourages kids to become a family history detective

The St. Catharines Museum in Ontario has launched a new weekly blog series, called Museum at Home, that offers fun and educational hands-on activities for children to do at home over the summer. Each week throughout July and August, the museum will post a history-inspired activity aimed to spark curiosity and learning.

The museum’s first blog post provides tools for kids to become a family history detective.

Kids are encouraged to interview older family members about their lives and use what they learn to write a story or draw a picture telling a part of their family’s history.

There’s a Family History Detectives Tool Sheet with interview questions to ask family members that can be easily downloaded.

The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre, located next to Lock 3 of the historic Welland Canal, is a local history museum.
