Yukon Archives re-opens

Yukon Archives in Whitehorse started a gradual re-opening to public access on June 23.

Reference services are available by appointment. Archives staff are available by phone and email to answer questions, prepare materials, and arrange for in-person research.

Offering services by appointment only allows Yukon Archives to:

  • schedule individual visits to maintain appropriate physical distancing
  • provide better help with identifying records before visitors arrive
  • prepare records to be ready for review upon arrival
  • fine-tune procedures for reopening.

Visitors who arrive without an appointment may enter if space is available. Each day a calendar of appointments will be posted at the entrance to Yukon Archives. Walk-up visitors can see the next available slot they can sign up for.

Yukon Archives closed to walk-in access on March 17 due to health advisories about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Yukon has had 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19. All have recovered. They’ve had no new cases since April 20.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta, the Archives of Manitoba, and the Prince Edward Island Public Archives and Records Office have re-opened.

The Rooms in St. John’s, where Newfoundland’s provincial archives are held, will reopen June 29, but they haven’t indicated which services will be available.

The Provincial Archives of New Brunswick opens July 6.

The BC Archives continues to say it won’t open its reference room until 2021, despite the request from a number of organizations to do so sooner.
