As Saskatchewan’s Archives Week came to a close last week, the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan announced the launch of its new online catalogue.
“This online catalogue puts the rich history of our province directly at the fingertips of our citizens,” said Minister Responsible for the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan Ken Cheveldayoff. “This will enable a broader audience to access historical documents anytime, anywhere whether their research be personal or academic.”
Researchers can search more than 900,000 descriptions of records from the permanent collection of the provincial archives.
The catalogue also provides online access to more than 300,000 digitized original archival records, primarily photographs and textual records. New content is added as records are processed and digital projects are completed.
Provincial Archivist Linda McIntyre said, “Our new catalogue provides a fresh, streamlined approach to accessing our holdings. “It enables us to make content available online quickly and easily, for research use across the province and around the world.”

The odd thing, however, is no catalogue is provided on the page recommended by the archives. I certainly can’t find anything called an AtoM catalogue. If it’s there, I see nothing with that name or title. Instead, I find it easy to select one of the Browse by categories in the left-hand margin, and then search from there.
This year, the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan is consolidating all five of its locations into the CBC building in Regina. Beyond the year, no approximate date for completion of the move has been announced.
