Ontario Ancestors’ half-price membership offer begins Friday

There’s good news for penny-pinching genealogists, and that’s probably most of us.

Ontario Ancestors, also known as the Ontario Genealogical Society, is bringing back its Grow Our Family membership program for another year.

Genealogists can take advantage of the Grow Our Family discount starting Friday, November 1 until midnight on December 15.

Current members and new members who “partner” together will each get their membership for half price — only $31.50. That’s probably the lowest genealogical society membership in Canada. (Earlier this month, John D. Reid included membership fees in his blog post, Financial Health of Canadian Genealogical Societies 2018.)

Ontario Ancestors members, who renews their membership, can receive a 50 percent discount on their membership fees simply by bringing in a new member. The new member will receive the same discount, provided they were not a member in 2018 or 2019.

Ontario Ancestors says, “Invite a friend, relative, colleague or acquaintance to join you in belonging to Canada’s largest family history organization, or simply sign someone else up with you as a gift.”

Here’s how the program works. When a member renews, they will receive a code to share with the new member.

When completing the membership form, for a very small fee, members and new members can opt to also join any number of the society’s branches and special interest groups to take advantage of the material that has been indexed or digitized for specific genealogical regions of Ontario.

Matchmaking on Facebook
If you’re looking for a partner, you may want to check out the Ontario Ancestors Facebook group. Last year, a number of members and new people posted their offer to partner with someone, and people have already started to ask for partners.
