Demolition is scheduled to begin today on a Catholic church on Quebec City’s beautiful Grande Allée Boulevard, not far from the gate that leads into Old Quebec.
Saint-Coeur-de-Marie Church, located at 530 Grande Allée will be torn down to make way for an 18-storey residential tower.
According to Radio-Canada, city hall had already authorized the demolition of the church on June 5, provided that Groupe Lessard preserves the front facade of the building and incorporates it into its condo project. The city waived this requirement last Friday.
The church was built in 1918 and closed to parishioners in 1997.
The Radio-Canada report shows images of the church’s exterior.
