Heritage Minute about D-Day inspired by New Brunswick soldier

Historica’s new Heritage Minute, released yesterday in time to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy next month, was inspired by New Brunswick’s North Shore Regiment and Major Archie MacNaughton who served in both world wars.

In an interview with CBC, Historica Canada president Anthony Wilson-Smith calls Maj. MacNaughton the prototypical “quiet Canadian” who was prepared to do whatever it took for king, country and family.

“He was, to me, symbolic of all those who just, without question, went over and risked their lives,” Mr. Wilson-Smith said.

This CBC report provides more information about Maj. MacNaughton, his service, and his family.
