While Googling “Library and Archives Canada,” one of the top results that appeared on my screen was from TripAdvisor — Restaurants near Library and Archives Canada.
It’s good to know genealogists have no reason to go hungry when they visit the archives. Still, I bet a lot of people miss the days when there was a cafeteria on site.
The list is funny, the first restaurant listed is in Stittsville and lunching there would be the end of one’s research for the day given the fact that Stittsville is 30 kms from LAC. Try Gibson’s on Queen, a short two blocks from the archives, a menu with variety, a restaurant with friendly servers and convenient for those who want to eat and then get back to their research. For many years, it was the place to have lunch following monthly BIFHSGO meetings – that alone should recommend it.
Interesting – when I clicked, the first restaurant listed is on Queen Street, which is well within walking distance of the LAC. In fact, every restaurant on the list is in the downtown core and easy to get to from Wellington and Lyon.
I suspect the first restaurant you see may be a “sponsored” one, and that we all see a different restaurant.
ah – interesting, and given my IP address is outside the NCR, I likely saw the more accurate results as there was no chance of me going to the top result…
Was that cafeteria up on the 6th or 7th floor? When I worked there, that’s the one staff used – can’t remember if there was a separate one for visitors. A shame to hear it’s gone
🙁
