It’s exactly one month before Christmas, so here’s a bit of genealogy fun before the day’s baking, decorating or shopping begins.
Geneanet, the French-based genealogy company, often posts short items about Are you related to? With the exception of Céline Dion and the French-Canadian ancestry of Madonna and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, few of the celebrities featured have a Canadian connection.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, Geneanet posted a link to the family tree of singer, songwriter Neil Young, who is from Toronto. His father, Scott Alexander Young, was a sportswriter and his mother, Edna Blow Ragland, had French ancestry and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Take a look at the Young-Ragland family tree to find out if you’re related.
Not related, but my sister went to high school with his sister. They lived on Millwood in Leaside. Neil is much older than his sister, who I assume was his step-sister.
