Among the latest publications digitized by the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec is a book about hundreds of families in Stanstead County in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.

The History of Stanstead county, province of Quebec, with sketches of more than five hundred families was compiled by B.F. Hubbard and the whole revised, abridged, and published with additions and illustrations by John Lawrence in 1874. The 1963 edition is the one available on the Quebec Archives website.
Since Stanstead is close to the US border, many of the people who settled in the area were Loyalists.
The book can be browsed page by page, but many genealogists will want to know right away if their ancestors are mentioned in the book.
To search for family names and other keywords, click on the magnifying glass in the top left of the screen. A box, Rechercher, will open where you can enter keywords to search. To speed up the process of finding surnames even more, scroll to page 363 to find the Index of Families.
Once you’ve checked the index, it is worth reviewing the table of contents
The book is also searchable and browseable on Ancestry, and an earlier edition, without a table of contents, can be found on Internet Archive, a free site.
