100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion on CTV’s W5

The biggest disaster in Canadian history was the Halifax Explosion that occurred on December 6, 1917. Two thousand dead. Nine thousand injured. A blast unrivalled until the development of the atomic bomb.

CTV’s W5 marks the 100th anniversary of the events that shattered the city in this week’s episode on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The episode will include an interview with the the oldest living survivor, new revelations, and the story of a city destroyed that rose again from the ashes.

  1. A. Kerry Harrison says:

My mother was a little girl who survived the Explosion but was scarred terribly. The Explosion left the lower half of her body nothing but scar tissue. She was 4 years old and had a kitchen stove fall on her and shards of glass peppered her body. She was to spend the next year in hospitals recovering from the burns.
